Tell us a bit about your time in Land and Food Systems in the Global Resource Systems Program

The Global Resource Systems program is a great opportunity to build your own degree program around focus areas such as environmental sustainability, food and resource economics, food sovereignty, nutrition, public health, sustainable agriculture, or urban planning.

How did you become passionate about your area of study?

Having a passion for growing, preparing, and eating food stemmed from having a family garden in the backyard, managing a community garden in high school, and currently managing some land co-operatively with a queer BIPOC team 3 blocks from the house I grew up in really helped me to ground my studies in knowledge and issues I am passionate about.

Are there any opportunities on Campus that you would recommend incoming students become involved in?

Being an active member in the Indigenous Students’ Collegium at the UBC Longhouse and the Canadian Indigenous Science and Engineering Society (AISES in Canada) chapter at UBC allowed me to connect with Indigenous STEM students and form a community in a fun environment.
